Designer brands: Burberry
Burberry is an English fashion house that began life in 1856. Thomas Burberry, just 21 years old and former draper's apprentice, opened his first store in the town of Basingstoke. In 1870, the business had carved something of a reputation for itself by concentrating on clothing for the outdoors, and ultimately, this approach led to the creation of a material called gabardine in 1880, it was a tough fabric, breathable could shed water, like a kind of 19 century Goretex.
Burberry bowed his name to the store, but realized that many customers started calling Burberrys. Perhaps wisely, he did the same, at least for a while, and that is why older products have an extra 'S' in the name.
In 1891, Burberry opened a shop in the Haymarket, London. This still exists and until recently served as its headquarters. Currently residing in Horseferry House, behind Houses of Parliament.
In 1895 the 'Tielocken was introduced. This design was the precursor of the coat and was taken by officials in the Boer War.
In 1911 he outfitted Roald Amundsen, a Norwegian who became the first man to reach the South Pole.
In 1914 the company was commissioned by the War Great Britain Office to update official shelters, and thus was born the now famous "trench". Burberry's paintings instantly recognizable was designed in the early 1920 and is used as a lining in coats, which became more and more popular among the civilian population. Is the most recognizable brand, but did not start to be used widely until 1967, when they find their way into accessories like umbrellas, scarves, and luggage.
Burberry is still an independent company 1955. It was later acquired by Great Universal Stores, and finally floated on the stock exchange in 2002. Burberry now has over 70 stores worldwide.
Burberry Group is a great British success story selling clothes, perfumes and fashion accessories throughout the world, but unfortunately during the decade of 1970, became in a uniform brand with some football fans in the UK. It has made a concerted effort to keep advertising the image on the face of it, but astute tastes of GQ, Esquire and Vogue have been successful. British talent such as Kate Moss, Agyness Deyn and Emma Watson have helped keep the brand up.
While many designer clothes may be on the expensive side, allowing the style conscious accessories to accent any look. The right shoes or scarf can turn a plain old jeans and combination of shirt into something more exciting. Burberry accessories are stylish and sunglasses all. 4,037 women of frames, for example, offer a look bold, especially in red. The thick side arms have what seems a nod to the signature verification, a grid pattern that hints pedigree, but it is modern and versatile. Add a cloth and you're good to go. Who knew that English Heritage does not look much dust?
